Progress Report

Here’s a summary of Dylan’s most recent progress report which was done by the special instruction teacher at his center-based program:

Dylan is a 2 year old boy who’s attended our program since November 2012. Dylan has improved in areas such as imitating gestures as well as using objects. He can follow commands such as “give me, put in, clap hands”. Dylan has adjusted very well to the classroom setting and transitions well from one activity to the next. He still requires prompting with his self-soothing skills. He tends to cry during diaper change although he runs to the bathroom with the diaper in his hand. His verbal skills are coming along very nicely. He’s able to answer simple yes and no questions to identify his wants. He is counting to 10 consistently and can identify most colors well. We are working on his pronunciation of sounds and words. He retains a lot of information and appears to be interested in his peers. He can sit and share toys appropriately and asks for items he desires with pointing, gesturing, head nods and associated words.

I can’t ask for anything more! He is thriving in the program, and with his therapies at home. I am very curious to see how things will be for him when he goes to “big boy” preschool in September, that will be 5 hours a day, so it will be more intensive. I faxed his reports to my top choice preschool, he will be evaluated through them as soon as I receive the CPSE packet in the mail which is needed for the evaluation process. It’s not a done deal I guess, but the intake coordinator hinted she is going to do whatever she can to get him a spot in that school. We had a long, heartfelt talk when I was touring the school, and we really hit it off. She said that if all goes well with the evaluations, it looks like he would do really well at their program. I am praying that he gets accepted because it is one of the top preschools in NY state!

We have a busy three day weekend ahead of us. I have the teacher’s assistant exam on Saturday afternoon; a baby shower for the family we became friends with through Dylan’s speech pathologist on Saturday evening; and a birthday party on Sunday late afternoon at a bounce house for one of Dylan’s classmates. Dylan is increasing our social life LOL! We are also going to meet up with my sister after the party on Sunday.
